Warner, LG Bow First 3DTV/Blu-ray Disc Bundles

Warner Home Video July 28 said it has partnered with LG Electronics and Sony Electronics to offer 3D Blu-ray versions of Imax Under the Sea 3D, Imax Space Station 3D and Imax Deep Sea 3D with the purchase of select Blu-ray 3D players, 3DTVs and 3D projectors.

The titles represent Warner Home Video’s first 3D titles bundled with third-party consumer electronics manufacturers’ 3DTV units.

Consumers in the United States and Canada who purchase an LG BX580 or BX585 3D network Blu-ray player through Dec. 31 will be eligible to receive Under the Sea 3D via mail-in coupon (www.LGusa.com/3Dpromo). Consumers in Europe, Asia, South America and Central America who purchase any LG Blu-ray 3D player, Blu-ray 3D home theater, 3D projector or 3DTV will receive Space Station 3D via mail-in coupon or inside the player box.

Narrated by Jim Carey, Under the Sea 3D takes viewers into the tropical waters of the Great Barrier Reef and other South Pacific realms. In Space Station 3D, the audience blasts off into space with the astronauts and cosmonauts from Florida’s Kennedy Space Center and Russia’s Baikonur Cosmodrome to rendezvous with their new home in orbit 220 miles above Earth. Finally, Deep Sea 3D features Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet narrating about the exotic creatures found in earth’s deep waters.

The 3D Blu-ray titles are available for playback in both 3D and 2D resolution.

“Imax is simply the best in 3D, and these visually stunning titles are perfect for consumers who want to take full advantage of and show off their new Blu-ray 3D home theater systems,” said Dorinda Marticorena, SVP, worldwide marketing and high definition for Warner Home Video.

Earlier this year, Panasonic offered 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment’s Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaur and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment’s Coraline with the launch of its Viera VT25 Series 3DTV.

Sony is offering Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment bundled with 12 different 3DTV models. Samsung is rolling out select 3DTV units bundled with DreamWorks Animation’s Monsters vs. Aliens in 3D — the first major animated 3D movie available on Blu-ray.

Disney this month began offering purchasers of a Mitsubishi 3DTV a 3D showcase Blu-ray disc featuring 3D trailers of A Christmas Carol, Alice in Wonderland and Toy Story 3, along with an educational short on 3D presented by Disney animated characters Timon and Pumbaa.
